Meet the Characters: The Story Behind Our Dog Man Collection

// by Joel Morris

If you have a kid between the ages of 6 and 12, chances are you know Dog Man. Dav Pilkey's beloved series has sold over 50 million copies, and for good reason — it's funny, heartfelt, and celebrates creativity in a way that resonates with kids everywhere.

Bringing these characters to Cubles was one of our most exciting projects. Here's the story.

Why Dog Man?

Dog Man is about a character who's part dog, part policeman, and 100% heart. The series celebrates creativity, kindness, and the idea that anyone can be a hero. Those values align perfectly with what we believe at Cubles — that building things with your hands is an act of creativity and confidence.

The Collection

Our Dog Man line includes some of the most beloved characters from the series:

  • Dog Man — the hero himself, complete with his signature look
  • Petey — the world's most evil cat (who's really not that evil)
  • Bark Knight — Dog Man's masked alter ego
  • Cat Kid — Petey's son and an artist at heart
  • Big Jim — the gentle giant
  • Sarah Hatoff — ace reporter

Each character is precision-cut to capture the personality and proportions that fans love, while still being buildable by a 6-year-old.

Perfect for Fans

We've seen kids at events recognize the characters from across the room. "THAT'S DOG MAN!" followed by a sprint to the table. There's something special about building a character you already love — it deepens the connection.

Our Dog Man packs and party packs are perfect for Dog Man-themed birthday parties, reading celebrations, and book club events.

A Note to Parents

Dav Pilkey's books encourage kids to create their own stories and characters. That's exactly the spirit we hope Cubles carries forward. When your child builds a Dog Man character, they're not just assembling a toy — they're participating in a creative tradition that started with a kid who loved to draw.

And that's pretty special.
